Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Aalia Neelum on Thursday summoned Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Karim to appear in person on Nov 11, after objecting to police officers making and uploading TikTok videos about missing girls.
The chief justice was hearing a petition filed by Salma Bibi, who is seeking the recovery of her allegedly missing daughter. She questioned how officers engaged in making video clips could trace missing girls. She also expressed dissatisfaction with the committee formed to recover them.
Punjab DIG (Crimes) Ali Janbaz and DIG (Legal) Awais Malik appeared before the court. A law officer submitted a report on abduction and recovery cases, stating that police have recovered 2,810 girls while 452 remain missing. Four of the outstanding cases date back to 2021.
Commenting on the delay, Chief Justice Neelum said the court cannot wait until 2032 to examine cases registered in 2024.
Police officers told the court that a social media application had helped trace a considerable number of missing girls. An officer from the investigation wing said most of the outstanding cases were reported from Rawalpindi, Sialkot and Nankana Sahib.
The court was also informed that action would be taken against the police officials involved in making and uploading the TikTok videos. The court adjourned the proceedings until Nov 11.
