Marvel Boss Hints at More Superhero Games After Wolverine

Marvel Games’ General Manager Haluk Mentes has suggested that Insomniac Games will continue to develop more superhero titles after the Marvel’s Spider-Man series and Marvel’s Wolverine. The statement came during Mentes’ recent interview, where he discussed Marvel Games’ creative philosophy and future projects.

Marvel & Insomniac: A Long-Term Partnership

Mentes said Marvel intends to work with Insomniac for many years to come. The studio, known for its Spider-Man series, has become Marvel’s go-to developer for single-player superhero experiences.

Marvel’s journey with Insomniac began in 2018 with Marvel’s Spider-Man, followed by Miles Morales in 2020 and Spider-Man 2 in 2023. The next project, Marvel’s Wolverine, is set for release in 2026, marking Logan’s highly anticipated return to gaming.

Mentes described Wolverine as the “epitome” of Marvel’s philosophy, saying that it was obvious to everyone that Insomniac should lead the project. He credited their shared culture and values, adding that they’re so proud to continue collaborating for many years to come.

Marvel Games has spent over a decade building its gaming portfolio. Mentes said the company operates under a “no regrets” approach, ensuring every project they pursue feels worthwhile even decades later.

He added that the studio feels a debt of gratitude to both players and future creators, noting that many fans’ first experience with Marvel could come through its games. Each new collaboration, he said, helps the studio’s partners become Marvel themselves.

Creative Freedom Across Multiple Studios

Mentes emphasised that authenticity doesn’t mean replicating Marvel’s comics or films. Instead, the studio allows its partners to create familiar yet original versions of its characters based on their creative DNA.

He cited several partnerships as examples:

  • Insomniac Games: Spider-Man series and Wolverine
  • NetEase: Marvel Rivals
  • Motive Studio: Iron Man
  • Arkane: Blade
  • Arc System Works: Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls
  • Twisted Pixel Games and Oculus Studios: Deadpool VR
  • Dotemu and Tribute Games: Marvel Cosmic Invasion

Mentes explained that Marvel seeks cultural alignment with its partners and ensures creative teams share the same ambition. He said:

We do actively help, guide, and enhance, but it’s unmistakably their voice.

What’s Next for Insomniac?

While Insomniac hasn’t confirmed its next project after Wolverine, a previous data breach hinted at potential plans, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 (possibly 2028) and a standalone Venom game initially expected in 2025. However, those leaked timelines may no longer be accurate.

For now, Marvel’s Wolverine remains the studio’s major focus and with Marvel’s confirmation of a long-term collaboration, fans can expect more superhero adventures from Insomniac in the years ahead.
