Meta has launched a new AI pet app called Waddle World. The app lets users adopt, feed, and play with a pixel pet in a cozy 16-bit world. Meta rolled out Waddle World in the Philippines first on both iOS and Android. The company has not yet confirmed when it will arrive in other markets.
Social media consultant Matt Navarra first spotted the app. He described Waddle World as Tamagotchi meets ChatGPT. The comparison fits the design well. Specifically, users choose a pet, help it grow, and interact with it through short daily sessions.

The app offers several interactive features. For example, users can describe their day by voice or text. The pet then listens and writes a journal entry in its own voice, complete with a doodle. In addition, Waddle World offers short mini-games that take a few minutes to finish. Furthermore, the app can send a weekly email based on what it has learned about the user.
As Meta explains:
“Waddle World is a cozy 16-bit world where your pixel pet lives. Hatch a virtual pet, visit whenever you like, and let it get to know you. No pressure, no streaks to protect, no scores to chase — just a warm little escape in the cracks of your day,” the app’s description reads.
Meta positions Waddle World carefully in its description. Specifically, the company says it is not a chatbot, not an assistant, and not a productivity tool. The careful framing comes as Character.AI and OpenAI face lawsuits over alleged harm to teenagers through companion AI apps.
Waddle World may also be a precursor to a Tamagotchi-like gadget powered by Meta’s Muse AI model. Furthermore, Meta already runs other AI apps including Pocket for vibe-coding games and Vibes for AI video generation.
