Microsoft is quietly adding practical upgrades to Windows 11, and one of them could save users a few clicks every day. The company is now testing a built-in network speed test that runs directly from the taskbar. Instead of opening a third-party website, users can check their internet speed in seconds.
The feature is part of a new update for Windows 11 Insiders in the Release Preview Channel. After installing the update, users can right-click the network icon in the system tray. A new speed test option appears there. When selected, it opens in the default browser and measures connection performance.
Users can test speeds over Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or cellular data. Microsoft first began testing this feature last year. Now, it appears to be closer to a broader rollout. For many users, this tool could replace the habit of visiting outside speed test websites.
In addition, Microsoft is expanding camera controls inside the Settings app. A new option allows users to adjust pan and tilt settings for supported cameras. However, Microsoft has not shared which devices support this feature yet. Even so, it signals deeper camera integration within Windows 11.
The update includes several smaller changes as well. Microsoft is adding new emojis to Windows 11. It is also introducing a full-page Widget settings menu, which should make customization easier. Another useful addition lets users set .webp files as their desktop background, expanding image format support.
Users can access the update through the Release Preview Channel. It is rolling out now for Windows 11 version 24H2 (Build 26100) and version 25H2 (Build 26200). As Microsoft continues refining Windows 11, these updates focus less on flashy redesigns and more on everyday convenience.
