Microsoft’s new Chromium based browser will support Chrome Extensions

Kyle Alden, Edge Project Manager, confirmed that the new Chromium-based Edge browser will support all Chrome extensions. He revealed this information during an interaction on Reddit.

While talking about changes coming to Edge and PWA (progressive web apps), Kyle confirmed that it is Microsoft’s intention to support all existing Chrome extensions. This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise as Vivaldi and other browsers based on Chromium all support Chrome extensions, so it shouldn’t be a huge technical challenge for Microsoft to bake in support for existing Chrome extensions.

Kyle also confirmed that EdgeHTML will continue to ship with Windows to support existing Universal Windows Applications which use its rendering agent to display sites. However, developers looking to use the new rendering engine will be able to update their applications soon after the first preview of the browser comes out.
