Motorola plans to announce upcoming flagship phone on April 22nd

Motorola will be making one of its most anticipated announcements in years as it unveils its brand new flagship series of smartphones on April 22nd. The company originally intended to make the announcement at the Mobile World Congress event in February but could not do so because the event being cancelled due to coronavirus. Now, the company plans to announce the new devices in a virtual event starting at 12pm US Eastern time on April 22nd, as announced by an official tweet by Motorola US.

The company is expected to unveil two smartphones carrying the new Edge branding, namely the Edge Plus and a cheaper unnamed Edge model. The Edge Plus has already been heavily leaked on the internet because of its originally intended launch in February. According to the leaks, such as this one from XDA-Developers the Edge Plus is expected to be running a Snapdragon 865 processor, landing it right in the midst of the flagship battle. The new phone will feature either 8 or 12 GB of RAM to go along with the super-fast processor and will pack a 5,000mAh battery to power the whole setup.

Moving on to the cameras, the Edge Plus will boast a triple camera setup stacked vertically on the back, which will include a 108 megapixel main camera sensor supplemented by a 16 megapixel wide-angle and an 8 megapixel telephoto camera. There is also a hole-punch front facing camera and the phone will come with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

In recent years, Motorola has been primarily focusing on the midrange, affordable smartphone market, but the introduction of the Edge Plus along with the folding Razr phone is expected to bring the company back into contention in the flagship section of the market.
