Neon Giant, the studio behind The Ascent, officially unveiled their ambitious new project at The Game Awards 2025. Titled No Law, this open-world First-Person Shooter (FPS) RPG promises a single-player experience that blends the freedom of Grand Theft Auto with the narrative depth of Cyberpunk 2077.
Published by Krafton, the game is a “gritty revenge story” set in a reactive world. The reveal trailer, which combined cinematics with in-engine gameplay, confirmed that No Law will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
No Law introduces players to Grey Harker, an ex-military veteran with black-ops instincts. Harker had left his war-torn past behind for a quiet retirement tending to his plants. However, his peace is violently shattered when trouble finds him again. Consequently, Harker must thrust himself back into action to take back what was stolen and confront the city that wronged him.
The game takes place in “Port Desire”. Neon Giant describes this setting as “unapologetically cyberpunk”, yet grounded. Instead of far-future megabuildings, players will navigate familiar streets, skyscrapers, and urban neighbourhoods. This “cyber noir” city features sleazy, deadly streets and a cast of wacky NPCs, including a mysterious woman in a bar and the city’s Mayor.
Unlike the studio’s previous top-down title, No Law uses a first-person perspective. The trailer showcased a “vertical slice” of the game’s combat sandbox. Harker utilises custom hardware and distinct playstyles to complete objectives. For instance, the footage displayed wall-penetrating radar, server hacking, and stealth mechanics. Additionally, combat includes visceral melee attacks, specifically a devastating kick that rivals Dark Messiah.
Neon Giant emphasises that No Law is a story-driven, reactive experience. Every decision carries weight. Therefore, each playthrough reveals new possibilities, allies, and outcomes. While the developer promises a robust open world, the initial reveal focused heavily on these intense combat mechanics.
No Law represents the “next step” for Neon Giant and is coming soon to consoles and PC.
