Electricity consumers across Pakistan are set to receive significant relief after the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority approved a reduction of Rs. 1.99 per unit in power tariffs under the quarterly adjustment mechanism.
According to a notification issued by the regulator, the tariff reduction has been approved based on the quarterly adjustment for the January–March 2026 period and will remain effective for three months, from June to August 2026.
The relief will be available to electricity consumers nationwide, including customers of K-Electric, helping reduce electricity bills during the summer months when power consumption typically rises.
NEPRA estimates that the tariff cut will provide cumulative relief of approximately Rs. 67.17 billion to consumers during the implementation period.
The adjustment is part of the regulator’s quarterly tariff review process, under which actual electricity generation and distribution costs are compared with previously determined rates. Any over- or under-recoveries are subsequently passed on to consumers through tariff adjustments.
The latest reduction comes as the government seeks to ease the financial burden on households and businesses amid broader efforts to improve affordability and support economic activity.
Energy sector experts say the tariff cut will offer short-term relief to millions of consumers, particularly during the peak summer season when electricity demand remains high across the country.
