Sony closed its latest PlayStation State of Play event with a massive surprise for fans. The company shadow dropped a brand-new game, God of War: Sons of Sparta, today, February 13, 2026. Additionally, Santa Monica Studio officially confirmed the long-rumoured remake of the original God of War Greek Trilogy. These announcements highlight a major focus on the roots of the franchise.
God of War: Sons of Sparta Launches on PS5
Players can jump into God of War: Sons of Sparta immediately on the PlayStation 5. Developer Mega Cat Studios created this new entry as a 2D action platformer. The game features a unique 16-bit pixel art style, giving the series a nostalgic look.
The story follows a young Kratos as he trains alongside his brother, Deimos. During gameplay, Kratos primarily uses a spear and shield. However, players will also acquire special artefacts to assist them on their journey. Interestingly, the game carries a “T for Teen” rating, which is a departure from the usual violence of the series.
Fans can purchase the Standard Edition for $29.99. Meanwhile, the Digital Deluxe Edition retails for $39.99. This premium version includes:
- In-game items
- Digital Artbook
- Digital Soundtrack
- Young Kratos PlayStation Network avatar
TC Carson, the original voice of Kratos, returns to provide the narration for this title.
The Greek Trilogy Remake is Officially in Development
Santa Monica Studio has officially started development on a remake of the God of War Greek Trilogy. Furthermore, TC Carson will return to voice Kratos for this project. The remake is currently in the early stages of development.

Consequently, several details remain unconfirmed. It is unclear whether the games will be released individually or as one condensed title. Developers are also deciding on the gameplay style. The project may retain the classic fixed-camera action or transition to the modern over-the-shoulder perspective seen in recent titles.
A New Chapter for Kratos
These two projects represent a significant return to the origins of the Ghost of Sparta. While many expect a sequel to God of War Ragnarok in the future, these titles focus entirely on Kratos’ past. Today’s shadow drop ensures that fans have something to play immediately while they wait for more news on the trilogy remake. This double announcement marks a historic moment for one of Sony’s most successful franchises.
