Citizens can now renew their national identity cards without visiting a NADRA office, as the National Database and Registration Authority rolls out a fully digital renewal process through its Pak Identity smartphone application.
The move eliminates one of the most common bureaucratic hassles for Pakistani citizens: long queues and repeat visits to NADRA centers just to renew a CNIC. Under the new system, the entire process, from submitting an application to uploading documents, can be completed remotely.
NADRA officials say the shift is part of a broader effort to modernize citizen services, cutting down processing times while making the system more transparent and accessible.
The authority has been steadily expanding the functionality of Pak Identity, positioning the app as a one-stop platform for identity-related services that previously required in-person visits.
The renewal process itself has been kept simple. Applicants open the app and navigate to “Identity Documents” on the home screen, then select the “ID Card” option.
After choosing the relevant applicant, they pick “Renewal” from the available services and follow on-screen prompts to enter personal information, upload supporting documents, and submit the request for processing.
By moving CNIC renewal online, NADRA is aiming to reduce footfall at its physical offices, a persistent source of public complaints over wait times, while giving citizens a faster and more convenient alternative for a process that once required taking time off to visit a registration center in person.
