The Punjab Finance Bill 2026-27 proposes a threefold increase in annual token taxes for commercial loader vehicles and higher rates for large engine private cars.
According to the document, commercial vehicles with a capacity between 4,060kg and 8,120kg will face a tax rise from Rs. 2,200 to Rs. 6,600 under this new provincial legislation.
Loaders with a capacity exceeding 8,120kg but not over 12,000kg will pay Rs. 12,000 annually, which increases from the current base rate of Rs. 4,000.
Long trailers and transport vehicles with capacities from 12,000kg to 16,000kg must pay Rs. 18,000, representing an increase from the previous Rs. 6,000 annual fee.
For heavy commercial vehicles exceeding 16,000kg, the newly proposed token tax has been raised to Rs. 24,000 from the older annual rate of Rs. 8,000.
Private cars with an engine capacity between 1,000cc and 2,000cc will be taxed at 0.3 percent of invoice value instead of the current 0.2 percent tax rate.
For luxury private vehicles with engine capacities exceeding 2,000cc, the proposed token tax rate will increase from 0.3 to 0.4 percent of the total invoice value.
