New “Total War: Warhammer 40,000” Will Let You Blow Up Planets

Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is real, and it looks devastating. Creative Assembly has confirmed the rumours, and they are bringing the grim darkness of the 41st millennium to life in a big way.

Today, December 12, 2025, marks a huge victory for strategy fans. Following months of speculation, leaks, and “40k” file sightings, the developer has unveiled their ambitious new title. The game is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

A Brutal Galactic Sandbox

Stranger Things star David Harbour revealed the game during The Game Awards. He will also voice an unrevealed character in the title. The announcement confirms that Total War: Warhammer 40,000 utilises the new Warcore game engine to deliver a massive “galactic sandbox”.

For the first time in Total War history, you can fully customise your army. Players can personalise names, heraldry, wargear, traits, and tactics. You will command four iconic factions at launch: Space Marines, Orks, Aeldari, and the Astra Militarum.

“There Is No Peace Amongst The Stars”

The gameplay takes the series’ known scale to a new level. Massive crusades unfold across system-spanning war efforts. Battles play out on war-torn worlds with diverse biomes and destructible terrain.

However, strategy goes beyond simple conquest. If a planet resists, you can use apocalyptic weaponry. The infamous “Exterminatus” allows you to blow up entire planets. This eradicates the world completely and denies valuable resources to allies and enemies alike.

Medieval 3 & More

This reveal follows intense speculation. During a recent Total War: Medieval 3 livestream, fans spotted files labelled “40k”. Those rumours are now proven true.

Speaking of Medieval 3, Creative Assembly officially announced that the sequel is in pre-production. It uses the same Warcore engine and ends nearly 20 years of “development hell”.

Additionally, Total War: Warhammer 3 received a major update. The “Infinite Empires” campaign is now free for players who own the first two games.

No release window has been announced for Total War: Warhammer 40,000 yet. But with Dawn of War 4 also confirmed earlier this year, it is a great time to be a strategy fan.
