OGRA Introduces GIS-Based ‘Raahguzar’ App to Tackle Illegal Fuel Stations in Pakistan
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), in collaboration with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC), has launched ‘Raahguzar,’ a mobile application that utilizes Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to assist users in identifying authorized petrol stations and outlets across the country.
The ‘Raahguzar’ application enables users, including government officials and law enforcement personnel, to efficiently identify unauthorized outlets, commonly known as “dabba stations.” The app allows users to submit reports about illegal gas stations that overcharge consumers or sell poor-quality petroleum through the app, promoting transparency and empowering stakeholders.
In addition to offering the locations of authorized petrol stations, ‘Raahguzar’ presents the current prices for petrol and diesel, thereby ensuring that users have access to the most current information. At present, the application is available on the Google Play Store.
The inauguration event was chaired by Mr. Masroor Khan, Chairman of OGRA, in conjunction with the Member for Oil and Finance. This occasion underscored the authority’s dedication to strengthening regulatory supervision and safeguarding consumer interests within Pakistan’s fuel sector.
In his address, Mr. Khan emphasized the potential of this initiative:” The launch of ‘Raahguzar’ is the first phase of a broader track-and-trace system aimed at promoting accountability, preventing economic leakages, curbing illegal activities, and enhancing the oil industry’s integrity. This initiative will serve as a game-changer in addressing the challenges posed by illegal petrol pumps and malpractices, contributing significantly to the growth and sustainability of the oil sector in Pakistan.”
The launching ceremony, held at OGRA head office in Islamabad, was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), FBR, Customs, the Explosives Department, and representatives from OCAC and the Oil Marketing Association of Pakistan (OMAP).
