OpenAI and Jony Ive Reveal AI Device to Replace Smartphones by 2027

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, alongside designer Jony Ive, has revealed a prototype of a revolutionary AI device that could replace smartphones. Speaking at an event with Laurene Powell Jobs, Altman described the upcoming hardware as “jaw-dropping good” and designed to bring a calm, peaceful user experience, unlike current smartphones that he likened to walking through Times Square.

While details remain limited, the device is expected to integrate ChatGPT to assist with daily tasks, offering an AI experience more like a personal friend than a traditional gadget. Altman hinted the product might not resemble a phone at all and could launch in 2027, potentially coinciding with Apple’s iPhone 20 release.

He stated,

“We want hardware that gives the feeling of sitting in the most beautiful cabin by a lake, not the chaos of constant notifications.”

The collaboration aims to redefine mobile technology, building a futuristic device that departs from conventional smartphone designs.
