OpenAI has rolled out a new ChatGPT update designed to simplify access to workplace information for businesses. The new “company knowledge” feature, available for Business, Enterprise, and Education users, lets ChatGPT connect directly with platforms like Slack, SharePoint, Google Drive, and GitHub.
Powered by a refined version of GPT-5, the update turns ChatGPT into a conversational search engine for teams. It can pull data from multiple connected sources, helping employees find precise answers without switching between apps.
The feature aims to make ChatGPT a central hub for workplace intelligence. By processing information from messages, documents, and tickets, the chatbot can summarize and deliver context-aware insights. For example, before a client meeting, ChatGPT can generate a briefing using Slack conversations, Google Docs notes, and Intercom support tickets.
OpenAI said the system provides clear citations with every response, allowing users to trace information sources. It can also interpret ambiguous queries, such as “Where did we land on company goals for next year?” by analyzing multiple documents and viewpoints. According to OpenAI, the tool applies date filters and can “think while it searches” to locate time-sensitive details.
This release builds on earlier beta features introduced in June, offering deeper integration than the previous app connections. The company states that the GPT-5-based model was specifically designed to search multiple data streams simultaneously, thereby ensuring more accurate and comprehensive results.
Users must manually enable the company knowledge feature when starting a new chat. While active, ChatGPT cannot search the web or generate charts and images. However, it can still respond using linked apps, though those answers won’t include detailed citations.
OpenAI confirmed that broader support for company knowledge will arrive in the coming months, expanding its reach across more ChatGPT capabilities. The update follows Anthropic’s recent “Skills” feature for Claude AI, signaling a growing focus among AI firms on enhancing workplace productivity through smarter search tools.
