Opera Launches AI-Centric Neon Browser for Power Users
Opera has officially launched its AI-focused browser, Neon, marking a new era in “agentic browsing.” The browser allows users to create apps through AI prompts and automate repeatable tasks using a feature called Cards.
Opera first announced Neon in May under a closed preview, but from today it will roll out to select users for $19.99 per month. The company says Neon is designed for those who rely heavily on AI in their daily routines. According to Opera’s EVP Browsers Krystian Kolondra, the browser will “help shape the future of agentic browsing.”
Neon offers several unique features beyond a simple chatbot. Its Neon Do function can summarize blog posts, share them to Slack, retrieve details from past browsing, or even order groceries. The browser also supports coding snippets for creating reports with tables and charts. Through Cards, users can build repeatable AI prompts similar to IFTTT commands such as pulling details and generating comparison tables across tabs.
Another feature, Tasks, lets users organize tabs and AI chats into focused workspaces, combining the functionality of tab groups with context-aware AI. While Opera faces competition from Perplexity’s Comet, The Browser Company’s Dia, and AI features from Google and Microsoft, Neon stands out with its subscription-based model targeting power users.
With this launch, Opera is betting on a future where browsers don’t just display information but actively assist in completing tasks, though real-world adoption will determine Neon’s success.
