Overwatch 2 Comic “Search & Destroy” Teases New Playable Hero

Published by

Overwatch 2 just dropped a massive story revelation that points to a long-awaited character finally joining the roster. The new Story Time comic, “Search & Destroy“, all but confirms that Emre Sarioglu will debut as a playable hero soon. However, the former Overwatch agent has returned with a darker, more volatile persona than anyone expected.

Overwatch 2: The Hunt for Emre

The narrative picks up directly after the cinematic reveal of Freja, the first new hero introduced in 2025. In the comic, narrated by Freja’s voice actor, “Olivia Le Andersen”, Talon executive Maximilien contracts the bounty hunter to locate Emre. The two share a history, having served together on Overwatch’s search and rescue team.

Freja’s investigation leads her to high-ranking Talon operatives, including Moira, Mauga, Widowmaker, and Reaper. She eventually deduces Emre’s location by tracking his attacks on satellite command centres. This trail leads her to a facility in Riyadh, a site they once visited during their Overwatch days.

A Demonic Transformation

When Freja arrives, she does not find the friend she remembers. Instead, she encounters a “demonic” figure. Emre now sports a terrifying design with featureless black eyes.

Furthermore, he wields a unique hardlight pistol never seen in Overwatch 2 before. His combat style is aggressive and explosive. During the comic’s climax, he destroys enemy reinforcements with a massive blast of “combustive energy”. Interestingly, his lines are spoken by an unidentified male actor. This casting detail serves as strong evidence that he is slated to become a playable hero.

Ties to a Deep Conspiracy

The comic confirms that Emre joined Talon after leaving Overwatch but has since gone rogue. His behaviour suggests deep manipulation. During the fight, he enters a “kill switch” state where his eyes go black, and he fails to recognise Freja. Once the battle ends, his eyes return to normal, and his memory seems to function again.

Most notably, his armour displays a red eye symbol with three dots. Sombra has been investigating this exact symbol for years. It connects to a secret organisation that may be responsible for the destruction of the original Overwatch headquarters.

With a unique weapon, a distinct voice actor, and a central role in the current lore, Emre Sarioglu is poised to blast his way into Overwatch 2 later this year.
