Blizzard is introducing major changes to Mythic skins in Overwatch 2 Season 19, launching on October 14. The new system completely reworks how players unlock and customize Mythic cosmetics.
Full Mythic Unlocks at Tier 1
Previously, players unlocked Mythic skins gradually through multiple Battle Pass tiers. The base version was incomplete until higher levels were reached.
Starting in Season 19, Blizzard is removing that step-by-step approach. Tier 1 will now grant the complete Mythic skin. Players will immediately receive the final design, including all visuals, sound effects, and animations.
This shift ensures that players “feel Mythic from the very first level,” according to Blizzard. It’s a major change from the old “evolutionary” model, where the skin slowly took shape over time.
New Tier System Focuses on Customization
After unlocking the full Mythic skin at Tier 1, the remaining tiers now focus on personalization rather than construction. Each tier adds new ways to make the skin stand out:
- Tier 2 unlocks customizable parts such as unique components or accessories.
- Tier 3 offers color variations, letting players swap between different palettes.
- Tier 4 enables ambient VFX toggles, adding extra visual flair.
Beyond these, players can unlock Gilded or Iridescent upgrades for even more premium looks. This system gives users more control over how their Mythic skin appears in matches.
Season 19 Mythic Skins
Season 19 introduces three Mythic cosmetics:
- Divine Druid Lifeweaver (Mythic hero skin): Available at launch.
- Spirit Keeper Kiriko (Mythic weapon skin): Available at launch.
- Cyber Fuel Junkrat set to arrive in the mid-season update.
These skins highlight Blizzard’s push toward more impactful and flexible customization for dedicated players.
A More Rewarding Mythic Experience
By front-loading the full Mythic unlock at Tier 1 and shifting later tiers to customization, Blizzard is making these top-tier cosmetics instantly rewarding. Players won’t have to grind just to see the skin’s final form. Instead, they’ll spend their time fine-tuning its look.
This change reflects Blizzard’s evolving approach to player engagement and rewards ensuring Mythic skins feel special right from the start.
