Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has rolled out a state-of-the-art surveillance system at the runway area of Jinnah Terminal, providing round-the-clock monitoring of the airfield and its surroundings in a bid to tighten security and streamline flight operations.
The newly installed cameras track aircraft parking and ground movement across the runway zone and are equipped to deliver clear imagery even during night-time operations, addressing a key gap in previous surveillance coverage.
Officials say the system will help detect suspicious activity in real time, giving security personnel a faster response window than earlier monitoring methods allowed.
The upgrade also targets a long-standing operational hazard: wildlife on the runway. A PAA spokesperson said the airside department will now receive instant alerts about animals present on or near the runway during landing and take-off, a phase considered particularly risky for bird and animal strikes.
PAA officials described the project as part of a broader push to modernise security infrastructure at the airport, aligning its surveillance capabilities with international aviation safety standards.
