Pakistan Begins Import of US Crude Oil with MT Pegasus

Pakistan has officially begun importing US crude oil, marking a significant shift in the country’s energy landscape as the massive MT Pegasus vessel arrived at the Cnergyico offshore terminal in Balochistan.

Pakistan’s energy sector reached a historic milestone on Wednesday with the arrival of MT Pegasus, the largest crude oil tanker ever to dock in the country. The vessel brought one million barrels of US crude oil, marking the first time Pakistan has received crude directly from the United States. The shipment represents the formal launch of crude trade between the two nations following a recent bilateral agreement.

Cnergyico confirmed that the MT Pegasus departed from Houston on September 14 and berthed at its Single Point Mooring offshore terminal today. The company described the development as a landmark moment for Pakistan’s energy industry, highlighting the country’s growing participation in global crude markets.

Cnergyico, which previously handled the largest crude vessel arriving in Pakistan in 2017, has already announced plans to receive additional shipments. A second cargo is expected to reach Pakistan in mid November, while a third is scheduled for 2026.

With this latest achievement, Cnergyico has become the first Pakistani company to import US crude oil, a move that industry analysts say strengthens Pakistan’s trade relationship with the United States. The arrival of the MT Pegasus is being hailed as the beginning of a new chapter in Pakistan’s energy diversification efforts and its engagement with international suppliers.
