ISLAMABAD: As part of the monthly Fuel Charge Adjustment (FCA), the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced that power costs will be reduced for consumers nationwide.
As stated in the official notification, the national average FCA has been decreased by Rs. 2.1240 per unit, bringing the actual fuel cost down to Rs. 10.8860 per kWh from the previous reference rate of Rs. 13.0100 per kWh.
For consumers in Karachi, electricity prices have been slashed by Rs. 3 per unit, while for those in other regions, the reduction stands at Rs. 2.12 per unit. NEPRA has issued separate notifications detailing these adjustments, confirming that the relief will be reflected in electricity bills for March.
The decrease in tariffs for K-Electric consumers results from the December 2024 monthly adjustment, whereas the adjustment for the rest of the country is based on January 2025 calculations.
This reduction applies to most consumer categories, with the exception of lifeline users, protected customers, electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS), and prepaid connections.
In February, the federal government reinstated fuel cost adjustment benefits for electricity users consuming up to 300 units and agricultural tube wells, aiming to provide financial relief to households and farmers. A spokesperson from the Power Division highlighted that these benefits had initially been discontinued in June 2015 for consumers using up to 300 units.
NEPRA has instructed Ex-WAPDA Distribution Companies (XWDISCOs) to adhere to court directives while implementing the revised tariffs.
