Pakistan Visa Denial May Cost India Hosting Mega Tournament

The International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) has warned India that the World Snooker Championship could be moved to another country if Pakistani players continue facing visa refusals.

The warning follows ongoing disputes over visas, which previously prevented Pakistani athletes from participating in the 2024 edition of the championship hosted in India, creating tensions between the two national associations.

Abdul Qadir, President of the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association, confirmed that the IBSF emphasized relocating the tournament if visa issues for Pakistani competitors remain unresolved ahead of the next championship.

He added that the governing body informed Pakistani officials that players would be barred from participation if the visa concerns are not addressed promptly, potentially affecting team attendance in the upcoming event.

In 2024, Pakistani athletes were unable to attend the championship after Indian authorities denied their visa applications, preventing them from taking part in the internationally recognized snooker tournament held on Indian soil.

The next edition of the World Snooker Championship is scheduled for November in India, with participation contingent upon resolving the ongoing visa problems currently affecting Pakistani players’ ability to attend the competition.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the International Cricket Council (ICC) was reviewing plans to relocate upcoming global events in India due to political tensions and logistical challenges among neighboring nations.

Media sources suggest the the international cricket authority was exploring moving the 2029 Champions Trophy and the 2031 ODI World Cup to alternative venues, as the arch-rivals refuse to play in each other’s countries.
