ISLAMABAD: Digital Nation Pakistan Bill 2024, an initiative to modernize government processes and enhance openness, has been authorized by the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecom.
After the bill passed, many MPs voiced their concerns about data privacy and the possibility of abuse. In any case, the panel’s majority vote was enough to pass the bill.
The bill would aid in streamlining digital identities and improving cybersecurity, according to Minister of State Shaza Fatima, although it does not centralize data collecting.
By allowing mobile-based operations and doing away with the requirement for physical papers, she claimed the new Bill’s regulations would improve public service delivery while simultaneously reducing corruption.
The members of the committee claimed that the Digital Nation Pakistan law should not be implemented until problems including poor internet, inadequate infrastructure, and the lack of a Data Protection Act were resolved. The committee still proceeded to pass the bill with little resistance, despite these concerns.
