ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is advancing its digital future through a series of strategic initiatives, including the Digital Pakistan Act 2025, a National AI Policy, and a Cloud First Policy, official documents from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) reveal.
The Digital Pakistan Act lays the groundwork for building a dynamic digital society, a robust economy, and transparent governance. It aims to harness digital technologies to spur innovation, foster economic growth, and improve the overall quality of life across the nation.
In tandem, the National AI Policy is being finalized with contributions from federal ministries, provincial governments, industry stakeholders, and academia. The policy is expected to shape the responsible use and development of AI technologies across various sectors.
Pakistan has also adopted the Pakistan Cloud First Policy across all provinces, as well as in administrative regions Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan, promoting cloud-based infrastructure as a national priority.
Other notable initiatives include drafting Pakistan’s first-ever National Semiconductor Policy and advancing the Personal Data Protection Bill (PDPB) after extensive consultation with stakeholders. Meanwhile, projects like the ICT Internship Program and the Pakistan Startup Fund are helping to strengthen the digital talent pipeline and boost confidence among venture capitalists.
Under the umbrella of the Digital Pakistan Act, these strategic moves reflect the country’s commitment to building a future-ready digital economy.
