The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a two‑year ban on Sri Lanka T20I captain Dasun Shanaka for breaching contractual obligations during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11.
Shanaka was found guilty of violating player registration terms and the tripartite agreement after withdrawing unilaterally from Lahore Qalandars ahead of the PSL 11 commencement.
The PCB stated that despite the formal regret of Shanaka during a hearing, his withdrawal was not recognised under contractual provisions, necessitating disciplinary action against the all‑rounder.
As a result, the 34‑year‑old Sri Lankan cricketer is barred from participating in the next edition of the Pakistan Super League, scheduled for 2027.
In a statement released by the PCB, Shanaka apologised to Pakistani fans, Lahore Qalandars supporters, and the wider cricket community for his decision to withdraw.
He acknowledged the prestige of the league, expressed remorse for disappointing loyal fans, and pledged renewed dedication to regaining trust when returning to the league in future.
Shanaka clarified that his withdrawal was not motivated by joining another franchise league, emphasising respect for Pakistani fans and appreciation for his experiences in Pakistan.
Initially signed by Lahore Qalandars for Rs7.5 million in the inaugural auction, Shanaka was replaced by Australian cricketer Daniel Sams three days before PSL 11 began.
Earlier this month, the cricket board banned Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani from the next two editions of the Pakistan Super League with immediate effect.
Muzarabani had been contracted to represent Islamabad United in PSL 11 before withdrawing to sign with Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.
He filled the vacancy left at Kolkata Knight Riders by Bangladesh left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman, who had departed the squad before the IPL season began.
