President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Corporation Conversion Repeal Bill 2026, completing the legal framework required for the full privatisation of the Airline.
According to media reports, the bill was passed by the Senate of Pakistan on June 10, 2026, and approved by the National Assembly (NA) of Pakistan on June 11, 2026.
Following the approval of the president, all legal requirements necessary to complete the privatisation process of Pakistan International Airlines Company Limited (PIACL) have now been fulfilled.
The federal government introduced the bill after the successful privatisation of PIA, seeking to remove the outdated legislative structure governing the national flag carrier.
The legislation repeals the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Conversion Act 2016, which was originally enacted to facilitate the corporatisation and eventual privatisation of the airline.
