Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved a Shariah-compliant, interest-free savings plan that will allow Pakistani pilgrims to save for Hajj expenses in advance.
The proposal was submitted as a joint summary by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, the Ministry of Finance and the Central Directorate of National Savings.
The three institutions will now introduce the plan together, enabling intending pilgrims to build up funds for the annual pilgrimage through regular savings.
On Friday, the Ministry of Religious Affairs held a meeting on the initiative, chaired by Federal Secretary Abrar Ahmed Mirza. Officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Central Directorate of National Savings and the Hajj Wing attended.
An official said the application procedure, eligibility criteria, savings duration, digital facilities and other details of the plan will be announced in due course.
