Pakistan took a major step in regional telecom leadership as PTA Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman unanimously secured election as Chairman of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators’ Council (SATRC).
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced this during the opening session of SATRC’s 26th meeting in Islamabad. The three-day regional forum, organised by PTA in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), runs from November 5 to 7, 2025, and brings together key stakeholders from across South Asia.
In his remarks after being elected Chairman, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman said Pakistan would work to deepen regional collaboration, expand digital connectivity, and accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies.
The 26th SATRC meeting marks another milestone in Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional digital cooperation. Earlier discussions at the event focused on collaboration, consumer protection, and digital transformation across South Asian nations.
The meeting gathered regional regulators, policymakers, and telecom leaders to align strategies on connectivity, spectrum management, and emerging technologies.
As the newly elected SATRC Chairman, Hafeez ur Rehman’s leadership highlights Pakistan’s growing influence in the regional digital ecosystem.
