Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has completed the draft of the Telecom Equipment Standards Regulations, which have undergone review by the Law and Justice Division. The regulations are now awaiting approval from the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet.
Upon receiving approval from the ECC, the regulations will be submitted to the Cabinet for final endorsement. Upon receiving Cabinet approval, the regulations will be officially communicated, and their implementation will begin.
As outlined in the PTA document, the authority established the Standards and Conformance Assurance Directorate, a dedicated entity tasked with delineating testing methodologies in accordance with regulatory technical standards. This initiative exemplifies the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s dedication to improving the overall quality and reliability of telecommunications apparatus within the country. The directorate will endeavor to guarantee that all equipment complies with the requisite specifications before entering into market.
The proposed regulations pertain to a wide array of stakeholders, encompassing telecommunications licensees, manufacturers, and importers. They encompass essential elements including electromagnetic compatibility, health and safety considerations, and radio frequency communication. The objective is to prevent the dissemination of substandard or incompatible telecommunications products that may compromise communication networks and risk users.
The PTA document also indicates that implementing rigorous testing measures will facilitate effective communication and minimize technical problems stemming from incompatible or inadequately designed systems. The introduction of these regulations by PTA is intended to protect consumers and businesses from faulty or non-compliant telecom equipment.
