The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has received multiple complaints from mobile users about unexpected deductions due to unauthorized value-added services (VAS). Consumers are urged to regularly monitor their mobile balance and active subscriptions to avoid such surprises.
VAS includes services like caller tunes, daily SMS or internet bundles, missed call alerts, mobile games, horoscope updates, quiz services, and other subscription-based content. Importantly, these services cannot be activated without the user’s explicit consent.
Activation of VAS requires confirmation via a one-time password (OTP) or dialing a specific USSD code. If a user has not shared an OTP or entered any code, the service should not be active. Any charges appearing without this confirmation may indicate unauthorized activation.
Users noticing unexplained deductions should immediately contact their telecom operator, file a complaint, and note the complaint reference number. Operators are required to resolve such issues within the prescribed time frame.
If the operator fails to address the matter, consumers can escalate the complaint through PTA’s Complaint Management System (CMS) at www.pta.gov.pk or via the CMS mobile app.
PTA emphasizes its commitment to protecting consumer rights and ensuring fair, transparent practices across Pakistan’s telecom sector.
