Cambodia Arrests South Koreans In Expanding Cyber Scam Probe

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public alert warning citizens about the rapid increase in online job scams and fake SIM card offers, which are being used to steal personal data and money.

Online fraud in Pakistan has surged in recent years, especially with the rise of digital job platforms and social media ads. Many scammers now exploit these platforms, posing as recruiters or telecom agents to trick job seekers and vulnerable individuals.

According to PTA, social media is flooded with fake job listings offering high salaries and flexible hours, luring applicants into sharing personal details like CNICs, photos, and bank information.

“We urge citizens to verify every job posting before applying and prioritize their safety,” a PTA spokesperson stated.

The authority also highlighted SIM card fraud, where vendors promise free SIMs or unlimited packages to collect biometric data especially targeting women and the elderly. These illegally obtained SIMs are later used for identity theft, financial fraud, and cybercrime.

Recently, a citizen in Hyderabad lost Rs 85,000 after fraudsters cloned his mobile SIM and accessed his bank account. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is now investigating the case.

PTA advises everyone to avoid sharing personal or biometric data with unverified sources and reminds that lending a SIM card registered in one’s name is a criminal offense under Pakistani law.

“Protecting your information is the first step in staying safe online,” PTA emphasized, urging citizens to stay alert and verify before they share.
