The Punjab Excise Department will begin billing urban property owners for sanitation fees from today, with bills for the Suthra Punjab programme going out to about 50 lakh commercial and residential properties across the province.
The government has assigned the Excise Department to handle billing for the programme. Officials expect the fee to bring in around Rs40 billion a year from urban properties. Bill delivery in urban areas will start on October 2.
Property owners will be issued six-month bills for the payment of the one-year sanitation fee. They must pay within 60 days of receiving a bill. Payments made after the deadline will be accepted with a penalty.
Excise officials said data integration between Suthra Punjab and the department has been completed. Bills will be printed on the basis of urban unit data and sent to the relevant regions. Inspectors in the respective circles will be responsible for delivering them to property owners.
