Punjab’s traffic enforcement authorities collected over Rs. 12.5 billion in fines during the first six months of the year, as millions of violations were recorded across the province under expanded digital monitoring and enforcement systems.
According to official data, more than 5.4 million traffic challans were issued across Punjab during the period, reflecting a significant rise in enforcement activity and the growing use of automated e-ticketing and surveillance systems in major cities.
The largest share of penalties came from basic road safety violations. Around 2 million motorists were fined for not wearing helmets, generating nearly Rs. 4 billion in fines, while approximately 791,000 challans were issued for driving without a valid licence, amounting to about Rs. 1.4 billion.
Other violations, including signal jumping, overspeeding, lane discipline breaches, and illegal parking, contributed an additional Rs. 3.84 billion in fines.
Authorities said the increase reflects both stricter enforcement and the expansion of digital traffic monitoring systems across the province. The initiative aims to improve compliance with traffic laws, reduce accidents, and promote safer driving behaviour.
Officials also indicated that further upgrades, including AI-based surveillance cameras and integrated licensing databases, are expected in the coming months to strengthen enforcement and reduce violations more effectively.
