Pakistan’s transition towards sustainable mobility is steadily gathering pace. Rising fuel prices, worsening urban smog and growing awareness around climate change are accelerating conversations around New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) as a practical long-term solution. While the sector is still in its early stages, increasing interest from global automotive brands signals confidence in Pakistan’s long-term potential.
The latest example is Geely Auto’s entry into Pakistan through Bestway Automotive Limited, making Bestway Group the official representative of Geely Auto. Geely Auto is not just another automotive brand entering Pakistan, it is one of the world’s largest mobility groups and a direct challenger in the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) space, competing globally with players like BYD. The group sits behind globally recognized brands such as Volvo Cars, Lotus and Polestar, giving it access to world-class engineering, design and research capabilities.
Beyond its own portfolio, Geely has collaborated with global automotive leaders including Mercedes-Benz and Ford, reinforcing its position as one of the world’s most influential automotive groups and a key force shaping the future of mobility. Its entry into Pakistan through Bestway Automotive signals a potential shift in the local automotive landscape, particularly in terms of high-end technology transfer, where Pakistani consumers and industry could gain access to the same next-generation engineering currently seen in European markets.
Geely delivered more than 3 million vehicles in 2025, becoming one of only three Chinese automakers—alongside BYD and SAIC—to rank among the world’s top ten by sales. Its NEV sales surged around 90% year-on-year to 1.68 million units, while the Geely Galaxy lineup recorded approximately 150% growth. The company also operates the world’s largest automotive safety testing centre, recognised by Guinness World Records, and its footprint now spans 88 countries with more than 1,200 sales and service outlets worldwide.
On the other hand, if we talk about the Bestway Group, it was founded in 1976 by Sir Anwar Pervez, is one of the UK’s largest and most successful business groups and among the biggest foreign investors in Pakistan. The Group is a category leader in cement in Pakistan through Bestway Cement and holds a significant stake in United Bank Limited (UBL), while also having a long-standing track record of building and scaling large-scale businesses in the country.
With its entry into the automotive sector, Bestway is set to help transition Pakistan’s automotive landscape by introducing globally leading NEV technology and premium mobility solutions. With a diversified portfolio spanning banking, cement, wholesale and real estate, Bestway has consistently demonstrated long-term commitment and operational credibility in Pakistan, reinforcing its position as a trusted and enduring investor now expanding into the automotive sector.
While the product portfolio and launch timeline have yet to be announced, Geely’s arrival adds another globally established player to Pakistan’s growing NEV ecosystem. Backed by Bestway Group’s long-standing investment in the country, the partnership reflects increasing international confidence in Pakistan’s automotive sector and could further accelerate the country’s transition towards cleaner, smarter mobility.
