The Punjab government has announced new legislation to regulate housing societies across the province, including Lahore, according to media reports.
Under the proposed rules, all housing schemes will be required to provide access to digital revenue records. The process for approvals and no-objection certificates for private housing schemes will also be digitised, streamlining what has traditionally been a paper-based system.
The new framework will additionally bring registration of property dealers and advertisements for housing schemes under a monitoring system. To improve oversight and transparency in housing projects, the government plans to introduce third-party verification of development costs.
A separate procedure is being developed to regularise illegal housing schemes, and authorities have said strict action will be taken against violators of the new laws.
Separately, the Punjab Central Business District Authority has denied that any illegal housing scheme exists under its jurisdiction.
