Punjab Expands Free Wi Fi With Faster Speeds Wider Coverage

LAHORE: The Chief Minister’s Free Wi-Fi service is now accessible in more locations across Punjab, including Lahore. With the recent upgrade to Wi-Fi 6, the number of free Wi-Fi hotspots in Lahore has increased from 200 to 230, offering faster and more reliable connectivity.

Users should expect quicker and more stable internet access after the upgrade to Wi-Fi 6, according to a representative. Free Wi-Fi is being provided at 300 places across 11 districts in Punjab by the Safe Cities Authority.

Currently, this service is available in the following cities: Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Attock. In certain areas, inhabitants of Sahiwal, Okara, and Murree can also take advantage of it. A representative from Safe Cities has verified that the entire province would soon have access to the free Wi-Fi.

With a total of 438 terabytes of data used, the service has been visited by over 17.7 million people thus far. The service has made residents’ daily lives better, and they are happy with it.

Additionally, the spokesperson made it clear that the free Wi-Fi is only for emergency use and will not be accessible for amusement or video streaming. Efforts are being made to turn Punjab into a digital hub as per the directions of the Chief Minister of Punjab.

In an effort to bring contemporary technology into conventional education, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz of Punjab had previously announced ambitious plans to equip the province’s public schools with digital labs and smart classrooms.

Chief Minister Maryam highlighted the close relationship between education and technological progress in her speech on Digital Learning Day.

“Development is now linked to technology, and the youth of Punjab must be equipped with the skills required to meet the demands of the modern world,” according to her.

In particular, the Chief Minister brought attention to the government’s initiatives to introduce advanced IT training programs in an effort to help students meet the needs of global markets.

As part of these initiatives, Punjab is making sure that students have access to top-notch information technology courses, like software development, freelancing, and artificial intelligence (AI).
