Punjab Govt Approves Recruitment of School Teacher Interns

In a major move to strengthen the education sector, the Punjab cabinet, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has approved the recruitment of School Teacher Interns (STIs) across government schools in the province. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting in Lahore, which reviewed multiple administrative and development initiatives.

The recruitment of STIs aims to address teacher shortages in public schools and improve classroom learning outcomes. According to government sources, the internship program will provide temporary teaching support while creating employment opportunities for educated youth.

“Our goal is to ensure that no classroom in Punjab remains without a teacher,” said CM Maryam Nawaz during the meeting, emphasizing education as the government’s top priority.

Alongside this, the cabinet approved the Punjab Protection of Ownership of Immovable Property Ordinance 2025, offering citizens enhanced protection of land rights, and sanctioned a subsidy program under the CM High-Tech Farm Mechanization Finance Program to boost the agriculture sector.

In a relief for commuters, the cabinet rejected the proposal to increase fares for electric buses in Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi, instead approving grants for new electric depots to expand the eco-friendly transport network.

Other decisions included the establishment of the University of Hafizabad, restoration of the Lahore Museum under a master plan, and approval of a traffic fine and point system to enhance road safety. The cabinet also reallocated funds for the Green Pakistan Program and delegated enforcement powers under the Punjab Consumer Protection Act to local authorities.

The wide-ranging approvals reflect Punjab’s focus on improving education, environment, infrastructure, and governance efficiency across districts.
