Punjab has introduced its first complete mobile hospital unit for livestock treatment, inaugurated by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Thursday.
The Chief Minister inspected the mobile veterinary dispensary, laboratory, and X-ray unit, and directed officials to organize a livestock conference. She also approved the design of a model veterinary hospital.
Officials briefed that 30 additional mobile veterinary dispensaries and 17 mobile veterinary labs have been launched, while 2,206 mobile veterinary hospitals are now functional across Punjab.
Each mobile unit is equipped with ultrasound, X-ray facilities, and laboratories capable of conducting 40 on‑site tests, including disease screening and surveillance.
Provincial Minister for Livestock Ashiq Hussain Kirmani and Secretary Livestock Ahmed Aziz Tarar provided details of the initiative. Ten divisional hospitals will be equipped with X-ray facilities, while 36 districts will have operation theatres and laboratories. A total of 138 ultrasound machines will be installed across tehsils.
Veterinary assistants will operate 6,964 mobile motorbikes to reach farmers’ camps for livestock treatment. Over 1,000 interns have already treated 3.4 million animals under the Chief Minister’s Internship Programme.
Punjab will establish a model veterinary hospital in every tehsil, alongside the construction and renovation of 230 veterinary hospitals. These facilities will include cattle crushes, mechanical crushes, horse crushes, hydraulic operation tables, and modern lighting in operation theatres.
The province plans artificial culling of 800,000 animals to boost milk and meat production. Punjab has also eliminated lumpy skin disease through effective vaccination campaigns.
