Punjab’s Literacy Department has announced plans to launch new Classroom on Wheels and Library on Wheels projects next year as part of efforts to expand access to education.
The development was discussed during a meeting of the Literacy Department chaired by Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat. Officials briefed the meeting on ongoing projects and their progress.
The minister noted a 25% increase in enrolment at literacy centres over the past year and said the department was continuing its work despite limited resources.
Rana Sikandar Hayat directed officials to launch the new mobile classroom and library projects next year. He also ordered the expansion of the Middle Tech project.
The meeting further directed the department to work toward making North Punjab and the Potohar region free of out-of-school children. The Literacy Department has been given a target of enrolling another 40,000 out-of-school children into the education system.
The initiatives are aimed at extending educational services to communities where access to conventional schools and learning facilities remains limited.
