The Punjab government is considering a proposal to revise the registration period and fee structure for private schools across the province.
Under the proposed system, private schools would receive registration for four years, with fees linked to their monthly tuition charges. Schools charging Rs. 1,500 per month would pay a registration fee of Rs. 10,000, while those charging up to Rs. 2,500 would pay Rs. 20,000.
Schools with monthly tuition fees of up to Rs. 5,000 would be charged Rs. 50,000 for registration. The fee would increase to Rs. 100,000 for schools charging Rs. 10,000 per month and Rs. 200,000 for those charging Rs. 20,000 per month.
For schools with monthly fees above Rs. 20,000, the proposed registration fee would be Rs. 1 million. The structure would therefore link registration costs directly to the tuition fees charged by private schools.
Under the proposal, registration would remain valid for four years after payment of the prescribed fee. At the time of renewal and issuance of a new license, schools would pay 50 percent of the applicable registration fee.
A separate proposal covering new rules and regulations for private school registration is also under consideration by the Cabinet Committee. The revised registration process and fee structure will come into effect only after approval from the competent authority.
