Punjab Revenue Authority’s Tax Collection Jumps 28pc Year-on-Year

The Punjab Revenue Authority’s (PRA) tax collection jumped 28 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of fiscal year 2025–26, reaching Rs66.41 billion. The increase comes despite no new taxes or rate hikes during the ongoing financial year.

According to a PRA spokesperson, the authority collected Rs66.41 billion in the first quarter of FY2025–26 compared to Rs51.98 billion during the same period last year. Additionally, Rs1.7 billion was collected under the Punjab Infrastructure Development Cess, reflecting steady revenue growth across sectors.

Officials attributed the increase to better enforcement and compliance measures rather than any new taxation. The PRA has intensified its crackdown on unregistered service providers to expand the tax net, with enforcement teams conducting field surveys and issuing immediate notices to non-compliant businesses.

To facilitate taxpayers, the PRA has also introduced a simplified online registration system, enabling businesses to easily register and integrate with the E-IMS platform for efficient tax filing. Service providers are now required to ensure timely submission of monthly sales tax returns through the system.

The authority has warned that businesses failing to register by October 31 will face penalties and legal consequences. PRA officials emphasized that the reforms aim to enhance transparency, strengthen compliance, and boost revenue generation without adding financial pressure on the business community.
