The provincial government of Punjab plans to launch satellite internet services to provide high-speed connectivity to remote and underserved areas across the province very soon.
PMLN Senator Anusha Rehman, senior advisor to the Chief Minister of Punjab, announced this initiative during a leadership summit held at a private university in Lahore.
The former IT minister stated that villages, educational institutions, and hospitals across Punjab will receive improved connectivity through the newly planned satellite internet service.
Connect the Unconnected
A dedicated campaign titled “Connect the Unconnected” has been launched in the province to address the lack of digital facilities faced by communities throughout the province.
Rehman noted that while there is a growing appetite for digital technology among residents, the absence of infrastructure remains the single biggest obstacle today.
The IT department is currently working on a range of modern connectivity projects to support the broader rollout of satellite and digital services across Punjab.
Youth and technology targets
The provincial government has also set a clear target to connect six million young people in Punjab with modern technology tools over the next four years ahead.
The summit also included detailed discussions on blockchain technology and digital assets, reflecting Punjab’s broader agenda to advance its digital economy significantly.
Rehman confirmed that satellite internet services will be launched at the government level in the near future, with formal timelines expected to be announced soon.
