Ray-Ban Meta Glasses Can Now Assist, Translate & Message

Meta just dropped a game-changing update for its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, bringing in powerful AI features, expanded global availability, and fresh new styles just in time for the sunny season.

One of the headline features in the new update is the live translation tool, now expanding to all markets following its early access launch. The tool enables real-time language translation across English, French, Italian, and Spanish, even without internet connectivity, provided the relevant language pack has been downloaded in advance.

“Whether you’re traveling to a new country and need to ask for directions to the train station or you’re spending quality time with a family member and need to break the language barrier, you can hold seamless conversations across English, French, Italian, and Spanish – no Wi-Fi or network connectivity required if you’ve downloaded the language pack in advance,” Meta explained.

The feature provides audio translations via the glasses and displays a translated transcript on the user’s connected phone. Activation is simple: users just need to say, “Hey Meta, start live translation.”

Instagram Messaging Integration

Meta has also introduced new communication capabilities by integrating Instagram messaging into the glasses. Users can now send and receive direct messages, photos, and even audio and video calls on Instagram hands-free.

“This joins being able to make calls and send messages through WhatsApp and Messenger, as well as the native messaging app on your iPhone or Android phone. No matter where your crew communicates, you can stay plugged in and connected effortlessly. Just say, ‘Hey Meta, send a message to Lisa on Instagram.’”

Access to popular music streaming services is also expanding. Users outside of the US and Canada can now use Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Shazam through Meta AI on their Ray-Ban glasses. As long as the default language is set to English, users can request music or ask Meta AI to identify and provide details about songs.

The update brings enhancements to Meta AI’s conversational abilities, allowing the assistant to interact more naturally and respond to visual cues from the user’s surroundings.

“In the middle of cooking dinner and you don’t have as much butter as you thought? Ask Meta AI to see if there’s a substitute based on what it sees in your pantry or refrigerator. And follow it up by asking which wine in your rack pairs best with the meal. You can speak as you normally would without needing to say ‘Hey, Meta’ each time, and Meta AI will respond in kind for a smooth, natural experience. Just say, ‘Hey Meta, start live AI’ to begin.” Meta stated.

Previously limited by regional AI regulations, this feature is now being extended to more countries across the EU, with UK users already having access earlier this month.

New Frame Styles Introduced

On the fashion front, Meta is adding new options to its Skyler frame lineup, giving users more ways to express their style. New combinations include:

• Skyler Shiny Black with Clear lenses

These additions cater to both bold and classic tastes, enhancing the glasses’ appeal as both a tech accessory and a fashion statement.
