The infamous hacker group Cyberleek has been leaking Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6 gameplay details online since August 18. The group recently leaked the entire GTA 6 map earlier this week. This massive GTA 6 map leak exposed the state of Leonida and its surrounding areas. Consequently, the leak sent shockwaves through the stock market. Take-Two Interactive Software (T2), Rockstar Games’ parent company, lost over $2 billion in market capitalization as a direct result.
GTA 6 Map Leak Gives A $2 Billion Blow to Take-Two
The financial damage is clear and measurable. On August 18, Take-Two (TTWO) shares traded at $248.13. Then, the GTA 6 leaks flooded social media. Immediately, the stock price plummeted. It hit a sharp low of $231.58.
By August 20, the price recovered slightly to hover around $240.71. However, the initial drop completely wiped out over $2 billion in market value within just two days.
| Date (2026) | T2 Share Price Status |
| August 18 (Pre-Leak) | $248.13 |
| Post-Leak Low | $231.58 |
| August 19 (Close) | $237.04 |
| August 20 (Average) | ~$240.71 |
| August 20 (Close) | $241.50 |
Cyberleek Demands Crypto While Activists Push Back
Cyberleek claimed full responsibility for the August 18 breach. Furthermore, the hackers are demanding cryptocurrency from users in exchange for releasing more data.
Rockstar Games and Take-Two quickly responded to the situation. The companies issued strict takedown notices on the leaked material. Therefore, fans heavily suspect the leaked Leonida map data is completely legitimate.
Meanwhile, the gaming activist group “Stop Killing Games” strongly condemned the hack. They called the illegal data breach destructive and harmful. Additionally, the group voiced explicit support for Rockstar’s development staff who are still working under these stressful conditions. Finally, the activists warned gamers against sending any cryptocurrency to Cyberleek.
What’s Next for Rockstar?
Interestingly, leaks do not always hurt Take-Two’s bottom line. Back in April 2026, the ShinyHunters hacker group leaked internal financial data. They revealed that GTA Online generates over $1 million daily through Shark Card microtransactions. That specific leak actually caused Take-Two’s stock price to jump.
Now, fans are looking forward to official, controlled news. Rockstar Games will premiere an extended look at GTA 6 next week on August 28. The presentation launches first on Netflix at 12:00 AM PKT. Later that same morning, the full showcase will air on Rockstar’s official YouTube channel at 6:00 AM PKT.
