Reddit Expands AI Search to French, German, Spanish, Italian & Portuguese

Reddit has broadened its AI-powered search feature to five additional languages  French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese  marking a major step in its global expansion of Reddit Answers, the platform’s intelligent Q&A-style search tool. The feature is now accessible in regions including Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Italy.

Reddit introduced its AI-powered search in 2024 as part of a push to make content discovery more intuitive and conversational. Instead of traditional keyword searches, users can now chat with Reddit’s AI to get contextual answers from community discussions similar to ChatGPT’s web-integrated Q&A format.

The upgraded version uses a Google AI model to generate responses, providing a more accurate and engaging search experience. Users who have their app language set to one of the newly supported languages can now enjoy localized AI interaction.

“Reddit’s AI search helps users find meaningful answers faster  powered by real conversations from our communities,” said Steve Huffman, Reddit CEO.

According to Huffman, Reddit’s search serves over 70 million weekly users, while Reddit Answers has already surpassed 6 million active users, highlighting growing demand for AI-driven search tools. The company plans to unify traditional and AI search to streamline how users navigate discussions.

Reddit’s move follows a broader trend as AI chat-based search interfaces gain traction across the web. Tech giants like Google and Brave, along with emerging players like Perplexity, are increasingly integrating conversational search to enhance user engagement and retention.

This expansion reinforces Reddit’s position in the AI-powered knowledge search space, offering users a smarter and more language-inclusive way to explore the platform’s vast community-driven content.
