A 26-year-old German doctor, Selma, has traveled to Pakistan to marry 22-year-old Muhammad Akmal from Mandi Bahauddin. The couple first connected through the online game Roblox.
Akmal, who is from the village Deefar, said their conversations lasted for about five months before Selma decided to move to Pakistan. “I proposed on the first day we started talking, and after some hesitation, she agreed to come,” he said in an interview with a YouTube channel.
Selma holds both German and Bosnian citizenship. She plans to build her life in Pakistan alongside Akmal. On arriving, she found village life and daily chores challenging at first. “When I saw the routines and tasks here, it was surprising. But I was happy to be with my husband,” she said.
The German doctor learned several new skills, including washing clothes, cleaning dishes, and making roti. “It felt difficult at first, but I quickly managed to learn everything,” Selma explained. She is also learning Punjabi and Urdu to communicate better with her family and community.
Akmal said his family fully supported their marriage. “We had complete support, and the wedding and travel cost around Rs4.5 million,” he said. He added that life after marriage has been smooth. “We live with love and respect for each other,” he added.
Such international marriages are not unusual in Pakistan. In March 2021, Canadian vlogger Rosie Gabrielle married Pakistani traveler Adeel Amer after meeting during her travels. In June 2023, 49-year-old Rosa from Mexico married 18-year-old Izaz Ali from Buner, KP, after connecting on Facebook.
