Rockstar Reportedly Testing GTA VI on Switch 2, New Leaks Claim

Grand Theft Auto VI just got delayed another six months and is now a whole year away. Yet the community hasn’t lost interest, as expected, and fresh leaks are stirring up even more excitement. Reportedly, Rockstar Games may be exploring a potential Nintendo Switch 2 version of GTA VI. While the studio has not confirmed anything publicly, the rumours come at a hectic moment for the company.

On November 6, Rockstar announced that GTA VI would miss its original May 2026 release window. Instead, the game is now set to launch on November 19, 2026, for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The studio said the delay will allow developers more time to polish the game. The announcement also caused Take-Two Interactive’s stock price to drop just minutes after it went public.

Leakers Claim Rockstar Is Testing GTA VI on Switch 2

Two well-known industry insiders, NashWeedle and NateTheHate, claimed that Rockstar is testing how GTA VI performs on the upcoming Switch 2 hardware. Both shared the information on X and stated that the rumoured port is being evaluated internally, though Rockstar itself has not confirmed any such efforts.

NashWeedle said: (Translation)

I can CONFIRM that a port of GTA VI for the SWITCH 2 is being worked on.
I hadn’t said much about it before because I needed to be cautious until now. I can also add that:

  • The game’s delay is not because of this version
  • It seems it will not arrive at launch

NateTheHate also said that Rockstar has tested the game on Switch 2 hardware. However, he clarified that testing does not guarantee a final release. He mentioned that Rockstar made an effort to see if the game could run on the platform, but he does not know the current status of those efforts.

What Makes the Switch 2 Capable of Running GTA VI?

Compared to the original Nintendo Switch, the Switch 2 is reportedly capable of running games at up to 4K resolution and 60 FPS in docked mode. It also includes support for Nvidia DLSS upscaling, which allows demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077 to run at stable performance levels. The enhanced hardware makes the idea of a GTA VI port technically plausible, though still unconfirmed.

Even then, leakers emphasised that technical tests do not always lead to full ports. Fans are advised to keep expectations realistic until Rockstar officially comments.

So far, the only confirmed Rockstar project involving the Switch 2 is the upcoming current-gen port of Red Dead Redemption, which is being developed alongside Double Eleven and Cast Iron Games. It remains unclear whether GTA VI or any other Rockstar title will follow the same path.

A Rumour to Watch, Not a Promise

With GTA VI now targeting a late-2026 launch, speculation will only continue. The possibility of a Switch 2 version adds a new layer of excitement, but the situation remains entirely unconfirmed. For now, fans should wait for official updates from Rockstar before drawing any conclusions.
