Samsung’s foldable strategy in the US has taken an unexpected turn. Instead of lowering prices as a new model approaches, the company has quietly raised the cost of its current flagship. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which launched last July, is now more expensive for some buyers, even as anticipation builds for its successor.
Typically, devices see price cuts when a replacement is near. However, Samsung has moved in the opposite direction this time. If you are planning to buy the Galaxy Z Fold7 in the US, you will now need a bigger budget.
At launch, the Galaxy Z Fold7 came in three storage options. The 256GB model was priced at $2,000. The 512GB version cost $2,120, while the 1TB variant reached $2,420. These prices placed it among the most premium smartphones in the market.
Now, the pricing structure has changed. The 512GB model costs $2,200 after the increase. Meanwhile, the 1TB version is now priced at $2,500. Interestingly, the 256GB model still holds its original $2,000 price.
This shift could signal what lies ahead. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, expected in July, may launch at an even higher price. If that happens, buyers could end up paying more for similar RAM and storage configurations.
Rising component costs remain a key factor. These increases continue to impact smartphone pricing across the industry. As a result, even major players like Samsung have limited room to absorb the pressure.
