Samsung Revises Galaxy Store Fees to Support Developers

To make its platform more appealing to developers, Samsung has announced a reduction in its Galaxy Store commission. Starting May 15, developers will now retain 80% of their revenue, while Samsung’s share will drop to 20%, an improvement from the previous 70/30 revenue split. This adjustment applies to all paid apps, games, themes, and in-app purchases, both consumable and non-consumable.

In contrast, Google Play Store maintains a 70/30 revenue split but charges smaller developers a reduced 15% fee on annual earnings below $1 million.

Epic Games previously withdrew Fortnite from Google and Apple’s app stores over high commission rates but continued offering it on the Galaxy Store until mid-2024. However, the game was later removed due to concerns over Samsung’s sideloading policies.

Despite the revised revenue structure, Epic is unlikely to return, as it now operates its own platform, the Epic Games Store, which takes only a 12% commission. Additionally, a legal dispute remains ongoing over Samsung’s Auto Blocker feature.
