Pakistan to Establish Artificial Intelligence Center at Pakistan Industrial Technical Assistance Centre Lahore

The government has announced a major step toward industrial modernisation, as SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan confirmed the establishment of a state of the art Artificial Intelligence Center at the Pakistan Industrial Technical Assistance Centre (PITAC) in Lahore. The initiative aims to strengthen Pakistan’s industrial capacity through AI-driven innovation, skills development, and machinery upgradation.

AI Expansion Across Provinces

During his visit, Haroon Akhtar Khan said the AI Center at PITAC will be expanded nationwide under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directive to equip youth with advanced AI skills and prepare industries for global competition.

“The Prime Minister has already ordered the launch of AI Skills Programs and AI Centers for youth across Pakistan,” he noted.

Funding Mechanism for AI & Machinery Upgradation

SAPM announced that PITAC, PIDC, and TUSDEC will create a joint funding mechanism to support AI development and machinery modernization across sectors. PITAC has already sought an increase in its development grant to speed up upgrades.

He said the reforms will strengthen SMEs, enhance skills training, and improve Pakistan’s ability to meet global industrial standards.

Under the upcoming National Industrial Policy, both PIDC and PITAC will be empowered to promote local manufacturing, technical innovation, and emerging technologies. PITAC continues to play a crucial role in import substitution through local machinery production.

Haroon Akhtar praised PITAC students, noting that many have secured admissions abroad, reflecting strong technical training standards.

Laboratory Visit & AI Centre Endorsement

He inspected PITAC’s advanced labs, including those for Industrial Automation, PLCs, Dies & Molds, Gauges, and Fixtures, and formally endorsed the establishment of the AI Centre with PIDC’s financial support. He also approved key machinery upgrades and awarded a cash prize to an outstanding student.

“Pakistan’s skilled youth are the real asset of the nation and will lead the next industrial revolution,” he emphasized.
